Heat Rash

What is it?
Heat rash is a faint rash caused by overheating. It is more common in babies than in children and usually appears on the face or in skin creases, where sweat can gather. It is not a serious disorder and you can treat yourself at home.

What can you do?
Take off any heavy bedding and remove a layer of your baby’s clothing. Let him sleep dressed in just a vest and nappy.

Give him a bath in lukewarm water. Pat his skin dry gently; leaving it slightly damp so that he cools down as his skin dries. When he is dry, apply a little baby powder to absorb new sweat.

Take your baby’s temperature and if it is raised, give him the recommended dose of paracetamol elixir.

How can you prevent heat rash?
Dress your baby in light clothes when the weather is hot, with cotton next to his skin, rather then wool or a man-made fibre. Keep him in the shade or put a sun canopy over him.

What the doctor might do?
The doctor will check that the rash is just a heat rash. If it is, your baby needs no medical treatment. If the rash has another cause, the doctor will treat that.

Summer Fun

School is about to be over and its time to start planning for some fun summer activities!

Hit the pool or better still hit the beach, if you live in Karachi, go out with your friends in the evenings, take tennis lesson or night enjoy the starry sky on your roof top, there are loads of activities that you can do this summer, just don’t sit at home and watch television because that would really be a crime!

Life Lesson
A group of working adults got together to visit their university lecturer. The lecturer was happy to see them. Conversation soon turned into complaints about stress in work and life. The lecturer just smiled and went to the kitchen to get an assortment of cups - some porcelain, some in plastic, some in glass, some plain looking and some looked rather expensive and exquisite. The lecturer offered his former students the cups to get drinks for themselves.

When all the students had a cup in hand with water, the lecturer spoke: "If you noticed, all the nice looking, expensive cups were taken up, leaving behind the plain and cheap ones. While it is normal that you only want the best for yourselves, that is the source of your problems and stress. What all you wanted was water, not the cup, but we unconsciously went for the better cups. "Just like in life, if life is water, then the jobs, money and position in society are the cups. They are just tools to hold/ maintain life, but the quality of life doesn't change. If we only concentrate on the cup, we won't have time to enjoy and taste the water in it."

Summers are here and water melons are every where! Apart from being excellent for dieting they also contain 1000 blessings and 1000 mercies, The prophet SAW said "None of your women who are pregnant and eat of water melon will fail to produce off spring who are good in countenance and good in character.

Let your baby cool off with some water-play
Summers are an ideal time to let your baby indulge in some water-play. You can put your baby in his bathtub or a small inflatable baby pool with a little bit of water and some bath toys. Let him splash around for some time. The baby will love splashing the water all around and on you as well. Always do this only when you are with your baby and never leave your baby unwatched even for a minute. It is safer to avoid public swimming pools as the hygiene levels may not be maintained effectively.
